Dear person in charge

I want to let you know that the following uploads have been blocked by Facebook Korea.

I want to ask you to promptly enable me to upload the newspaper article and the news clip criticizing a recent action taken by National Human Rights Commission of Korea.

I have referred to “Hate Speech Section” of your community standard and found that your blocking is not justified as this is not a hate speech and your indiscriminate blocking policy cannot be applied to Korean market.

The seemingly relevant part of your community standard is “We define hate speech as a direct attack on people ... — race……sexual orientation………..gender, gender identity….”. However, I find this does not apply to the uploads I was trying to make. The article is about a recent action taken by our government agency which tries to add to an unheard of sex, which is “3rd sex” on its website. Our constitution clearly states that laws and regulation in Korea pursues equality between two sexes, man and woman. This is not a hate speech which directly attacks protected people, rather it is a reasonable criticism on the government authorities based upon our constitution which is now being enforced as to all laws and governmental administration. I find you have just randomly categorized any speech as hate speech if it has any relationship with protected categories. Therefore, your screening is not justified.

As a corporation doing business in Korean market, Facebook Korea should respect local laws and regulations as well as market situation. In Korea gay marriage has not been legalized and our constitution clearly supports marriage between one man and one woman. Also most people hold negative views on homosexuality. By trying to enforce your unilateral community standard applied in western countries on Korean market, you are showing disregard and disrespect of Korean people, its culture, local laws and market situation. I strongly condemn your arrogant and authoritarian behavior to block my just exercise of freedom of speech.

I wish you will agree with my justified demand and I want to let you know that every possible steps will be taken to protect my justified right as a Facebook user unless you do not solve the problem as soon as possible.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Best Regards,

Joseph Joo
